In 1904 the first man to fight and teach jujutsu in the West, Yukio Tani (along with Taro Miyake) opened a dojo known as the "Japanese School of Jujutsu" at 305 Oxford Street W. in London. As minor as it might seem to others, it was impossible for me to be in London and not visit this spot. It was due to brave men, like Yukio Tani, and their early efforts in a new land that many of us are able to enjoy and pass forward this art today.
